By all accounts, 2012 has been a very successful year for Vancouver’s food carts so far. Take the 12 new food carts added to our city’s streets earlier this spring, for example.
On Canada Day, the Waldorf Hotel created a block party event that hosted several food carts in its parking lot.
Food Cart Fest has drawn thousands of people out to the East Vancouver hub for all things music, food, and culture. From noon to 6 pm, you can partake of the food carts, along with a DJ, beer garden (for those 19+), and summery atmosphere – there’s even a sandy spot to dig your toes into while sipping on a cocktail or icy cold beer.
Get here soon though, as Sunday, September 2 will be the last food cart event of the summer. UPDATE: The event has been extended by popular demand until the end of September. While there last Sunday, I noticed La Brasserie Street, Earnest Ice Cream, The Juice Truck, Guanaco Salvadoran Cuisine, Tacos Ricos, Street Meet, Holy Perogy, Off the Wagon Travelling Tacos, Delish Gluten-Free Bakery, PazzaRella Pizzeria Napoletana, Feastro, Pig on the Street, Cartel Korean Tacos and It’s to Die for Banana Bread.
This is a free, family-friendly event (excluding the beer garden) that will hopefully see a second season next year.
The Waldorf Hotel is located at 1489 Hastings Street (just East of Clark) in Vancouver.
