Although long-time Purebread Whistler fans, we hadn’t yet had the opportunity to make it up to their bakery in Whistler. Last weekend, we got our chance.
Purebread is located in Function Junction, across the street from Whistler Brewing Company. The owners make their way to the weekly Whistler Farmer’s Market, as well as to various Vancouver markets throughout the season. Speaking of the brewery, we took a tour over the weekend and learned that their spent grain goes to Purebread for creating their divine Dysfunction Ale bread.
As if having the chance to purchase their goods right on the spot wasn’t enough, their tiny cafĂ© space pours individually brewed cups of Portland’s Stumptown Coffee!
Whether it’s a decadent brownie or the Adults Only (rosemary sea salt chocolate cookie) calling your name, I have my two favourites from long ago already sorted out: the Nutella Brioche and the happy dance of a Carrot Cake Cookie waking up my taste buds.
Their range of organic breads is baked fresh and the selection changes daily. The lineup has grown in size, both in the bakery’s fans and in selection. It’s hard to get to a farmer’s market without seeing a queue forming within the first hour of the market’s opening.
Purebread Whistler will be closed from October 16-November 23, but I’ve been told that they’ll be back for the winter markets at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Purebread Bakery is located at 1-1040 Millar Creek Road in Whistler. Don’t take my word for it; I’ve heard that a resident bear is also a huge Purebread fan and keeping that bear away has proven a challenge for the baker at night all summer long! I suspect that the bear is enjoying last-minute treats before hibernation.
